the short version
Your video, its sound and your captions never leave your computer. CaptionSmith has no server that receives them, and we never see them.
what stays on your computer
- The video you open, and the sound taken from it.
- The transcript and every edit you make.
- Your settings, such as the caption style, language and light or dark mode.
- The speech engine, once downloaded.
These are kept in your browser's own storage on your device, so you can pick up where you left off. You can remove them at any time by clicking "Start a new video" in the app, or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
what is downloaded
Your browser downloads the website from our host, the speech engine files from Hugging Face, and the engine runtime from the jsDelivr network. Like any website, these services see your IP address and browser type when they send the files. They never receive your video or captions.
